A note on copyright
Thumbnails belong to the channels that made them. Downloading them for research, inspiration, or recovering your own work is fine — re-uploading someone else's thumbnail as your own is not. When in doubt, ask the creator for permission.

How do I download a YouTube thumbnail in HD?+
Paste the video URL into the box above and click Get Thumbnails. The first image shown is the maximum-resolution version (1280×720 when the channel uploaded an HD thumbnail). Click Download under it to save the file.
Why is the HD (1280×720) thumbnail missing for some videos?+
YouTube only generates the maxresdefault size when the uploader provided a high-resolution custom thumbnail. Older videos and auto-generated thumbnails may only exist up to 480×360, which we still show.
Does this work with YouTube Shorts?+
Yes. Paste the Shorts link (youtube.com/shorts/…) and the tool extracts the video ID and fetches its thumbnails the same way.
Is it legal to download YouTube thumbnails?+
Downloading a thumbnail for personal research, study, or backup of your own content is generally fine. Thumbnails are copyrighted by their creators, so don't reuse someone else's thumbnail in your own uploads without permission.
Do you store the thumbnails or my links?+
No. Everything runs in your browser — the images are loaded directly from YouTube's image servers and nothing is uploaded to or stored by us.
